HISTORY OF KRISTIGARBA (WORLD STORY)

In the story Saint Monk it is said that: “After Buddha enters Nirvana for 1508 years, at the Ly dynasty, title Vinh Huy (Everlasting Radiance), Bodhisattva Kristigarba was born in the royal palace of King Tan La. His name was Kieu Giac and traditional name Kim (Gold).

He got ordained when he was twenty four years old, accompanying a white dog named Good Sound (this dog can hear human’s voice) to Giang Nam province, Thanh Duong district, East of prefecture Tri Chau. He went to meditate on the summit of mountain Cuu Hoa (Nine Flowers) for 75 years.

At the Duong Dynasty, bearing the name Khai Nguyen (Open Source), year 16, on the night of the thirtieth of July (Lunar Calendar), he got enlightened to Buddhahood. He was 99 years old at that time, and still living in Cuu HOA (Nine Flowers) cave.

At that time there was a Happy Senior named Man Cong (Acute Duke) who was very generous, and ready for donations. He often performed charitable acts, or good deeds . Every year, he invited monks to feast. He invited 99 monks, and reserved one seat for Kristigarbha Bodhisattva.

One day, he asked senior Man Cong to give him a piece of land, just enough to lay his Casa Robe. When Man Cong agreed to give him the land, he took out his robe, lay it down and covered the whole land next to the mountain……….first, for all beings could live happily, and second, for they could bear gratefulness of being educated. Feeling the kind character of the Bodhisattva, they would avoid bad deeds, perform good acts, thus receiving great benefits.

But, people in the neighboring countries liked to do evil acts, like possessing desire, anger, ignorance, wrong views, using cruel, sharp words, lash out at each other. They did not respect Buddha or Monks, or keep morality. They hated good people, planned to harm honest people, having no virtue at all.

Not only that, if there were diseases or illness, they invited trance people, prayed for evil spirits or demons, and asked the wicked monks or non-religious people, killed animals, creating many bad karmas.

The two kings, seeing that people of the neighboring countries liked to commit sins, felt pity for them. Together they contrived a plan to provide extensive expediencies to save them from receiving bad karmas, thus immersing forever into sufferings.

After the discussion, one of the king made a vow: “Now I make a vow to get ordained in order to achieve Buddhahood early in order to deliver all those wicked people from sins and enter into Nirvana.”

The other king also made a vow: “ Now I make a vow to get ordained and practice Buddhahood. I will never become Buddha if I have not delivered all those people from sins and sufferings for they can enjoy happiness and peace in life. “ For the two kings who made the above vows at the same time, the king who made up his mind to become Buddha earlier became TATHAGATA RVAJNASIDDHARTA; but the other king, who vowed always to deliver all sinful suffering beings, became Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha.

Due to his vows , Bodhisatta Ksitigarbha still remains a Bodhisattva, although innumerable life spans have passed. So, how great is his heart to save living beings.
